In late 1997 I was treated for prostate cancer (see my Prostate Cancer Digest page). This was the beginning of my quest to bring information I learned to all others who care to learn (not all do). I started my web sites at that time and it since have had Discussions Groups, Conference/Chats with prominent doctors and patients who have "been there done that", help for local support groups, special help for the newly diagnosed and a Prostate-Help Information Database of the most current information and studies that can help you today to make a treatment decision. Many of these things I have now dropped due to my creeping old age and sometimes just do not feel like doing all that I did and spending more time with my family.
There is nothing like it anywhere for "non-commercial - no ads" oriented help for men with this disease. No one pays me, no one buys me. As far as I am concerned I tell it like it is. These are things that I have written through the years that I feel are important for all to read and understand. Some may be parts of this Prostate-Help web site and some are from posts to the groups. If they are on this web site I have tried to add "An Opinion" to distinguish from other reported data.
You can do with it what you want - but let be say that I believe I know more about many things going on than about almost any patient that I am aware of. Most patients may have met the doctor, been treated by the doctor, never looked at anything else and may have been happy with the treatment - although he may not even know how the treatment was executed, never knew was the standard of practice was, never knew what really went on. They see the doctor through rose colored glasses and never turn a leaf to see what may have been eating away.
You either take me for what I have accomplished since 1998 or disregard what you wish - that is always your responsibility to yourself. Let it be known that there is little I say that cannot be backed up one way or another.
Let me also make it very clear that I am the owner of Prostate-Help and responsible for everything it does. I do not accept any funds from medical clinics, doctors, drug companies or other organizations. I am fiercely independent and say and do what I think is appropriate and do what I think is appropriate - but some will always disagree. I do accept donations from those who use this web site and/or Forums and find what I do worth something to their involvement with this disease. These donations go to pay the bills for the web site, the ISP, the Host, and all of the other things that I use to make what I do available. If you want a day by day description of my decision making process I had outlined it on an old web site that may still be up and running. It is an interesting story and gives you some idea how confusing the diagnosis can be. One final thought is due to many changes in the place I was treated - I no longer recommend that anyone go there.
